MLD to build new GLP laboratory facilities in Saskatoon
MLD is pleased to announce the construction of a new GLP analytical lab facility in Saskatoon SK. The lab will be located in the Atrium Building within the Innovation Place research park and will house several mass spectrometry and other analytical platforms. GLP, or Good Laboratory Practise, is a laboratoy standard required for the analysis of samples for drug studies that are intended for regulatory approval.
“Creating a GLP lab in Saskatoon has been a goal of ours for some time,” says Dr. Shawn Ritchie, CEO & CSO of MLD. “There are few, if any, GLP-certified labs in Western Canada, and having the ability to perform analytical studies to this high of a standard will allow us to support our own internal plasmalogen drug development programs, including those of GraySpace Therapeutics. It also puts us in a position to offer high-quality, robust analytical services to other sectors.”
Dr. Wei Jin, Director of Laboratory Operations for the new facility, sees this as a significant milestone for MLD. “We already have a superb analytical methods team and excellent quality systems in place. This expansion was a logical next step for Med-Life as we continue to expand our product offerings, including kit manufacturing and analytical capabitilies.”
Renovations of the facility are now complete, with a fixturing period for instrumentation certification to begin this August. The facility is expected to be operational and running by late fall of this year.
